Project Overview
The City of Waukegan retained Baxter & Woodman Boller Design Build to complete an $8.8 million upgrade at its 20 MGD Lake Michigan surface water treatment plant.

Project Scope
This project involved the complete reconstruction of 10 gravity filters, including:
- New electrically-actuated inlet gates
- New backwash troughs
- New sand and anthracite filter media
- Replacement of old surface wash system with new airwash system
- New underdrain system
- New backwash supply and backwash waste valves and electrically-actuated valves
It also involved the complete replacement of chemical treatment equipment, including:
- New alum chemical storage tanks, day tank, transfer pump, four new peristaltic pumps, and controls
- New polymer chemical feed skid
- New fluoride chemical storage tanks, day tank, transfer pump, two new peristaltic pumps, and controls
