Village of Carol Stream Public Works Facility

Overall there are (15) material bins approximately 19′ high between the 2 sites. 9-11′ PCC Walls heavily reinforced with rebar with another 9-11′ of lumber construction with hardie trim, 18″ I joists, heavy duty anchoring along with gutter systems for the roofed bins. All the new material bins will act as very-needed storage for the Public Works mulch, salt, sand & gravel as the current bins have exceeded capacity. Some of the bins with the newly constructed roofs will act as storage for their larger equipment. Another important aspect of the project is relocating the existing police impound lot from the Public Works Facility over to the new police impound adjacent to the WRC facility. The new impound lot will have state-of-the-art surveillance technology, a mini data center in the supplied cargo container adjacent to the impound lot in which also act as a storage container for the police. The impound will be surrounded by 8′ tall fence with razor wire. At the WRC facility, there was approximately 500lf of 18″ RCP storm sewer installed to connect to an existing storm system at the beginning of the property. This tie in will help prevent the property flooding during large storm events. Carol Stream has had issues with flooding in that area previously. The main issue from the project was the existing soil in which we had to construct the parking lots and material bin areas. From 0′ to 4′ below existing grade the soil was very hydric and contained a mix of sand, topsoil and clay. Over 1,000cy had to be undercut and replace with 3″ stone. The cut material was trucked to the beginning of the site for a possible public sledding hill or park.
