Village of Antioch Sequoit Creek Park

Redevelopment

Project Overview

The Village of Antioch Sequoit Creek Park project included the complete redevelopment of the abandoned 3.28-acre site. The project was centered around the Sequoit Creek channel flanked by native landscaping and rock structures. The meandering sidewalk throughout the park leads the visitor to several features including overlook areas, brick and stone footbridge over the creek that connects the concession facility/restaurant with the Italian gazebo and concert seating area. The site also includes a large playground, splash pad/pergola area and two fire pits with seating.

Project Scope

The construction involved several critical elements for our team to manage. Working closely with the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission and Army Corps of Engineers, our project team temporarily rerouted the creek for the necessary work to be completed to the affected areas. This included erosion control, relocating underground sanitary, gas and Comed. Once the necessary new work was completed the temporary system was removed with the creek flowing back to its primary path which included flood mitigation. Additionally, existing telephone poles were relocated off the site to make way for the new concession building, hardscape and parking. A new transformer was also installed. The preliminary environmental work started late July 2022. Our project team mobilized and started construction in early 2023, completing the work in August 2024 per the original schedule.
